Travel Directions to Northfield Mountain

Important! Travel Restrictions and Delays

Route 2 west of Greenfield is closed in places, particularly between Florida and Charlemont. Check this map for updates.

The Gill-Montague bridge between Route 2 and Turners Falls is limited to one-way traffic.

The Gill Crafts Fair this weekend will slow traffic on Route 2 between the Gill-Montague Bridge and the Barton Cove campground.

Northfield Mountain is located close to the junction of I-91 and Route 2, near the intersection of Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire.

Mapping Software and GPS Coordinates

Use 99 Millers Falls Road, Northfield, MA as the address with mapping software. The GPS coordinates are N42.61098, W072.47149.

Route 2 in this area is also known as the “Mohawk Trail.” Near the Barton Cove campsite, Route 2 is called the “French King Highway.”

Many maps show "Northfield Farms" as the correct location of Northfield Mountain.

From I-91 Northbound

As you approach Greenfield from the south, Exit 26 offers a variety of travellers services: gas stations, lodging, restaurants, and super markets.

For Northfield Mountain, take Exit 27 to Route 2 East and continue east. You will pass the group campsite at Barton Cove (3.9 miles) and cross the French King bridge (6.3 mi or 1.0 km). At 7.2 miles, turn left onto Semb Drive immediately before the Entertainment Center. Drive one long block and make a left at the stop sign onto Moore Street (Route 63 North). 2.0 miles later, turn right at the "Northfield Mountain" sign and proceed to parking.

From I-91 Southbound (Vermont)

From the North on Interstate 91, take Exit 28 in Bernardston. At the top of the ramp, turn left onto Route 10 North. Drive 4.5 miles and turn right at the stop sign onto Route 63 South. Continue 5.2 miles, turn left at the "Northfield Mountain" sign, and proceed to parking.

From Route 2 West

Coming from Albany or North Adams areas on scenic Route 2, drive to Greenfield. At the I-91 rotary interchange (Exit 26), drive 3/4 around and take I-91 North. Then follow the directions above, I-91 Northbound.

Cellphones

Cellphone reception enroute should be excellent on major highways. Signal strength may be spotty around Northfield, depending on your provider and your location. There is a cell tower on top of Northfield Mountain.

Automobile Services

Fuel is readily available on I-90 and off I-91, I-84, and I-95 and in Greenfield and Turners Falls. Between Greenfield and North Adams on scenic Route 2, service stations are few and far between. There's a Mobil station on Route 2 in Gill, 0.8 miles from the Barton Cove entrance.

Campsite

The group campsite is 4 miles from I-91 and 5.6 miles from Northfield Mountain. For directions, click CAMPING.
